Wiener Festwochen 2010

Wiener Festwochen 2010 will take place from 14 May to 20 June. The detailed programme is expected to be presented in December 2009.

Résumé of Wiener Festwochen 2009

The Wiener Festwochen 2009, headed by Artistic Director Luc Bondy with Performing Arts Director Stefanie Carp and Music Director Stéphane Lissner, were a big success. 185 786 people attended this year’s festival, which makes an overall visitor attendance of 91.41 %.
23 productions have an attendance rate of more than 90 % including 13 production with an attendance rate of 100 %.

In total 48 148 tickets were offered, of which 44 010 where given away.  
In addition the Wiener Konzerthaus presented the Festwochen-concert programme and the Filmmuseum and the Schauspielhaus showed a co-operation with Wiener Festwochen.
Some events were also free of charge, like the opening ceremony at Rathausplatz or the events of the Festwochen-series “Into the City”.

The Wiener Festwochen presented 39 productions with 187 performances including 4 world premieres, 2 new productions and 1 European premiere.
The artists and ensembles come from 27 countries and 5 continents:  Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, France, Germany, Hungary, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Kosovo, Lebanon, Malaysia, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, the USA and Vietnam.

Wiener Festwochen with Othello in New York
At Wiener Festwochen 2009 director Peter Sellars staged OTHELLO with John Ortiz as Othello and Philip Seymour as Iago. The premiere in Vienna was on 14 June. This internationally much attended Festwochen-production is now shown in New York in collaboration with the Public Theatre and the LAByrinth Theater Company. The premiere was on 20 September 2009.
